He's at it again. Eternal renegade of rep programming Don Malcolm (FRENCH HAD A NAME FOR IT, MIDCENTURY MADNESS) brings 13 insanely rare international noirs to the Roxie—including nine never before screened in America!
A RARE NOIR IS GOOD TO FIND had two previous incarnations, in 2015 and 2017, where 27 rare noirs from 16 countries were screened—from which a number of titles (PALE FLOWER, SALON MEXICO, BLAC K HAIR, THE HOUSEMAID) found their way into the acclaimed NOIR CITY international series held just ahead of COVID.
"The time is ripe for more of these astonishing films to surface," Don says, "as we continue to discover that the late Spencer Selby was right: there was—and is—a worldwide film noir tradition that needs to be traced in its entirety so that we will know its true extent and be able to properly assess its influence in film history."
"In his various film noir series, Don Malcolm has combined an impresario's sense of showmanship with a scholar's ability to unearth and discover previously unknown classics. Best known for his French noir festivals, Malcolm has recently turned his attention to noir gems from other countries."
